Get to know me!! Rich Brooks - Kentucky

It's time for part three of twelve (thats a full 25%!) in the miniseries that is sweeping the nation, "GET TO KNOW ME!", introducing you to the coaches of the Southeastern Conference. Next up on the chopping block, Rich Brooks, head coach of SOMEONE'S Kentucky Wildcats!

I'm Rich Brooks, and I sucked in the NFL too!

Head Coach Rich Brooks is preparing to enter his fourth season in the Southeastern Conference and nobody seems to have any idea why. Or how he got there in the first place. The rumor around Lexington is that the athletic director simply asked for "that guy from Oregon" and they accidentally hired Rich instead of Mike Belotti. That's what happens when your previous coach takes your team to a 7-5 record and then leaves you for Baylor. WTF?!? Baylor? Did someone convince Guy Morriss that the Southwest Conference was still around? Was he offered all the women he could want? Men? Barnyard animals? Wow. I mean, Baylor, seriously.

Anyways, Brooks has accumulated a stellar 9-25 record, but has at least had the decency to go 17-15 if you consider his record against the spread, and not, you know, in terms of actual wins and losses. You hate the see Brooks' fine 91-119-4 record that he had prior to Kentucky get tarnished in such a fashion. If they had asked him nicely Tubby Smith might have been willing to coach the football team to mediocrity as well. Could it have been worse? Really. Maybe Tubby would have won some games and then left to take over the program at Middle Tennessee.

Rich is probably facing down his last chance to find success at Kentucky and working in his favor is the fact that he does have several returning starters this year. No reason for Rich to not at least manage a league victory over Vandy and Mississippi State. Pull off an upset here or there, take care of the out-of-conference business and just maybe the good people of Lexington get another year of Rich-mania! The least that Brooks could do in the meantime is find another offensive lineman fronting as a QB to amuse me. Please, Rich?

Coach says if I win the game I can have the Sonic-size tater tots with cheese!

Okay, someone has to take it. They are my Kentucky Wildcats.

The best rumor floating around right before Brooks was hired was that Steve Spurrier was interested in the position. It was fun to see a state full of Spurrier haters suddenly become his biggest fans. Needless to say the Big Blue fans were a little disappointed in the actual outcome.

oh man, I had totally forgotten about the Spurrier rumors.

Probably the same folks who thought we'd bring The Ol' Ballcoach to Fayetteville had Nutt taken the Nebraska job when it was on the table.

Spurrier was also rumored to be coming Alabama. Twice.
